Yoga Inspiration: Our Resonance

Our Resonance

As we move through the world our energy reflects and vibrates with us. Whether we realize it or not, we are made of energy. Every space we are in we bring in the energy of ourselves. I recall my 200HR YTT, when a woman stood to the far left of me and announced, “I can feel people’s energy” and I was like “Huh?” But her reference was around her experience, at the time, as an energy healer. This was all new to me!

Of course, I’d had the experience of being in someone’s presence and feeling good or bad “vibes” but I had never thought about the science behind it, humans are essentially made of 6 elements, along with kinetic and potential energy!

In yoga, especially within the practice of Yin Yoga, there is the discussion of the Chakras, an energy system that is compiled of 7 areas of the body. These 7 energy centers connect our physical, emotional, and mental beings. We can dive into those another time.

This all comes down to the vibrations of energy! A resonance that we carry with us and leave behind everywhere we go. If you practice within a yoga studio with others, you know there is a different experience when you are in a room full of others, moving and breathing together. For some this energy reinforces the positivity of the practice, for others, it may be overwhelming. It really all depends on how our energy is blending with others. Group fitness classes such as spin, kickboxing, and circuit training are often loved by many for the high energy that is built by the group.

On the other side of things, if you end up in a room where the energy is low, sad, or filled with anger, it can instantly throw you off. Negative work cultures can cause much more grief that just the tension with co-workers, leaders. It can impact your overall energy beyond the workplace, leave you feeling drained, and have negative impacts on your mental, emotional, and physical health.

Let’s take our resonance into our practice this week. By building positive energy, using deep and full sounds with the breath and voice. Allowing ourselves to echo, continually for positive effects!

Let’s look ahead at how we can build our practice this week:

Mantras: Have you ever experimented with mantras? In the early days of endurance sports I used them often. They are words or sounds that are repeated that allow you to focus. The most popular in yoga is likely “Om”. However, they come in many variations. Here’s a traditional sample from Spotify. Or perhaps try coming up with your own for your week!

Asana Practice:

Easy Pose > 3 Oms > Seated Cat/Cow > (Seated Upward Salute > Eagle Arms > Upward Salute > Twist) R/L > Table Top > Bird/Dog > Extended Child’s Pose > Downward Dog > Three Legged Dog > Low Lunge + Twist > Three Legged Dog > High Lunge + Twist > Standing Forward Fold

Remember to always practice within your own limits and take care of physical and emotional well-being.
