Flip the Switch
When was the last time you intentionally ‘flipped a switch’ in life? Changed cities or countries? Careers? Decided to start a new health/fitness routine? Learned a new skill and really leaned into it? When you have, does it reignite a passion for something?
As a Capricorn, I like change. I’m happiest with a big picture plan and the ability to have moving parts within it. As a yoga teacher and yoga trainer, I can operate my work just about anywhere! That doesn’t mean I can pick up and go any time, but I can plan for opportunities to do so. I love this about my career!
Is there something you’ve always wanted to do, or somewhere you’ve wanted to go? When and where I grew up, big dreams were often presented as too far fetched. People settled into a career path, a family, and life was pretty much decided from there. A house was purchased, a family car, and for those who were “fortunate”, family vacations. I’ve never been truly interested in that life and the older I get, the more I pull away from it.
Those who know me, know “My Boys” are my pups Frank and Spencer. They are what have grounded me the most in the last 13 years. But, as age creeps in and their time with me gets shorter, I begin to wonder what lies after them. What will ground me and what will inspire me to move forward.
In this week’s practice, let’s explore our practice in a way that reignites our passion on the mat, by infusing playfulness and fun!
Journaling Suggestion: Journal big dreams this week. If you had nothing holding you back, not family, finances, careers, homes; what would you do?
Asana Practice: There’s plenty of ways to be playful in our practices depending on your comfort and practice level. Here’s a basic starting point that you can build on and work through in your own way!
Extended Child’s Pose > Table Top – play and move freely > Dancing Camel > Thread the Needle (R/L) > Downward Dog > Three-Legged Dog > Open the Hip > Pigeon: flow high to low > Three-Legged Dog > High Lunge: twist > Warrior II > Repeat O/S
Remember to always practice within your own limits and take care of physical and emotional well-being.
