Be Free – Let’s Get Wild!
After a little down time, infused with sunshine, friends and love, and careless days. I’m feeling energized again. I’m ready to get back to schedules, productivity, and planning. However, this past week was a reminder that even within the pursuit of daily life, we sometimes need to set ourselves free and add a little “wild” into the equation.
What’s something you’ve been wanting to do, that’s totally accessible in the short, that you have put off? Perhaps you build that into your week, or if not your week, into the next 30 days. Weekend away? A hike? A show or concert? Try a rock-climbing wall? Living in Calgary there are so many choices, especially when we look around us more intently. I’ve added a few things to my list just today that I would like to do before the end of April.
In the practice of yoga one of my most freeing practices I have ever experienced is aerial yoga. Have you tried it? If not, I highly recommend it. While it can be an array of upside postures, the simple feeling of joy that happens when you are unweighted from the ground, in any posture, is amazing. In 2024 my colleagues and I built a 40HR BE FREE Aerial Yoga Course that explores the principles, postures, and practice of aerial yoga. Did you know you can do Yin and Restorative in the aerial silks? If you are interested in exploring it more, join us this summer!
This week on the mat, we’ll explore the posture of Wild Thing (Camatkarasana). Adding a little fun and flip! While it’s not floating in a silk, we can generate that excitement of moving backwards, exploring balance, and energizing our back bodies.
Meditation Suggestion: This week let’s explore our meditation with something a little less traditional. A walking meditation somewhere outside with aspects of the wilderness around you; in a park, a trail, etc. Take in the smells, the sounds, and the visuals of what arrives in front of you. Try and not engage with any devices during this time.
After a 10-15min warm-up below are suggested poses for your week to help facilitate opening in body, mind, and spirit.
Yoga Practice: (Child’s Pose > Cat/Cow > Downward Facing Dog > Plank > Side Plank > Plank > Downward Facing Dog > Sun Salutation A X 3) REPEAT X 3 > Forearm Plank > Sphinx > Downward Facing Dog > Side Plank > Wild Thing REPEAT O/S
Remember to always practice within your own limits and take care of physical and emotional well-being.
