Yoga Inspiration: Ground with Strength

Ground with Strength

Last week our inspiration had us going “wild”. Offering the opportunity to build up and practice variations of our Wild Thing. As fun as that was (I had some students ask if I could do it again this week!) we can’t stay wild too long. We must come back and settle. However, this week I want to approach this inspiration from a strength perspective. Being grounded doesn’t mean we can’t be playful, open, and strong.

In fact, it is the times in life when I must ground myself that sometimes takes the most strength, patience, and focus on my breath. While I’m born under an Earth Sign, it still takes effort to find my footing and not live too far in the clouds some days. However, even when I feel grounded, I find a little time to play.

In our practice we have a part of our body that is always grounded, in some poses more than others. Focusing on the grounded part will help stabilize our bodies, minds, and spirits.

Meditation Suggestion: Let’s take our traditional cross-legged position for our meditation. However, find a visual object for which you can focus. This could be a tree in nature, a candle flame, or an object that makes you feel grounded.

After a 10-15min warm-up below are suggested poses for your week to help facilitate opening in body, mind, and spirit.

Yoga Practice: Crocodile (focus on the breath) > Reverse Wipers > ½ Frog (R/L) > Child’s Pose + Lateral + Twist > (Cat > High Kneeling > Upward Salute) X3 > ½ Sun Salutations > (Plank > Side Plank > Lizard > Yoga Squat) R/L

Remember to always practice within your own limits and take care of physical and emotional well-being.
