Yoga Inspiration: Taking the Leap

Taking the Leap

Over the past month I have witnessed our Yoga Teacher Trainees take many leaps! The leap into our training program. The leap to meet new people, to begin using their voice, to find new ways to think about their yoga practice. It’s incredible to watch from the trainer side of the floor and I am very proud of them already!

It’s what has me thinking this week. What propels us to take that leap into the unknown?

I’ve reflected on what led me to take my first yoga teacher training. It was the possibility of what came after and curiosity about a practice I had done for a long time, but never really understood beyond the student perspective. I often joke that I resisted the idea of taking my first ever yoga class and now here I am. Who knew! But I put myself out there to the possibility of whatever was to come. I absolutely love my work, and the outcome could not have been better!

However, taking the leap is hard. Doubt can be easily cast and can shadow out the positive possibilities. Along my journey I have had many times of difficulty and doubt and without hesitation I know these times will arise again. Each time, there always seems to be another leap needed to move forward, almost like a perpetual game of hopscotch!

In my experience, we are almost always never “ready”. Each time we are asked to leap, it is only us who can decide if we are “willing”. With every decision we guide the direction of our life. That doesn’t mean we take every leap that is presented to us! But the choice is ours to make.

Journaling Ideas: What is something you “took the leap” on in the last 3mths, 6mths, 12mths? What is something you considered and decided not to/delay that leap within those same time frames?

Provide yourself a 10-15min warm-up prior to beginning any of the below suggested practice for your week.

Yoga Sequence:
One simple way to at the leap into our yoga practice is to try jumping from our Standing Forward Folds back to our Plank Pose. Then, Plank Pose to Standing Forward Fold.

Mountain > Standing Forward Fold > (hop back) Plank > Downward Facing Dog > Standing Forward Fold > Mountain. REPEAT 3 TIMES.
Downward Facing Dog > Plank > (hop up) Standing Forward Fold > Mountain. REPEAT 3 TIMES.

Close out your practice using your warm-up as your cool-down and offer yourself a 10mins Savasana for rest.

Remember to always practice within your own limits and take care of physical and emotional well-being.
