Yoga Inspiration: Adventure

Adventure

This time of year, I start to get a little antsy. While I’ve found some winter hobbies I have come to love dearly, it’s more of the idea of wanting to escape, craving adventure.

Adventure is different for everyone! For some, it may be a trip abroad, with a backpack and limited plans. For others, it might mean heading out of the city to the mountains, which we are so lucky to have nearby. But! For those who live in the mountain areas, it might be coming into the city for a night downtown or a concert. Activities such as rock climbing, sky diving, downhill skiing, and motorcross might be a more regular kind of adventure. Either way, it’s the feeling of something exciting.

However, almost always adventure comes with risk. Only we can decide how much we are willing to risk for the adventure. How far we push our own boundaries, how much discomfort we can accept for the ideal outcome. With knowing, the ideal outcome may not be the result.

I believe a sense of adventure keeps us feeling excited, young, and interested in life. But the stage of our life may be what sets our boundaries. Our physical and financial abilities, whether we have others relying on us and how our choices impact them. While I’d love to take 3 months to travel through Europe, now is not the time in my life for such an adventure.

Some adventures take long-term planning, whereas others can be spur of the moment decisions!

Journaling Ideas: What’s an adventure you would like to do that is easily accessible for you? Why have you not taken it? What’s an adventure you would like to do that takes longer planning? Have you thought about the planning and perhaps a potential time when it could happen? Have you passed on an adventure, and if so, how do you feel about it? Is there an adventure you took that didn’t work out as planned? If so, how do you feel about?

Yoga Practice: take your practice on an adventure this week! Try a new style in your studio, or try a new studio/community centre, or even something online. Just try something new. Who knows what you might find!

Remember to always practice within your own limits and take care of physical and emotional well-being.
