Yoga Inspiration: Reconsider

Reconsider

I’ve been recollecting on conversations that often have the phrase “I want to but can’t right now.” Sometimes even out of my own mouth. While it is true that we only have some much time and resources, I’ve managed many experiences in life that I didn’t think I could handle, both positive and negative. I’m willing to bet just in reading these first few lines a situation in your life has already come to mind.

Of course, many circumstances arrive unexpectantly in our lives, and we must accommodate them. But, what about those you get to choose? Something as big as a vacation, or as small as lunch with friends. Every single day we make choices that move our life in a direction. In every decision we choose to move towards or away from friends, family, career, travel, financial empowerment, health, etc.

I’ve been reading the book The Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield. A fictional story that gives insight into how energy controls outcomes. “In his imitable style of great storytelling, Redfield opens us up to a world of insight, inspiration, synchronicity, and power.” – Deepak Chopra. This book is a great reminder how each choice we make moves us towards and away from various parts of life. The simple act of striking up a conversation in a check-out line could change the course of your life!

It’s estimated that the average person makes 35,000 decisions in a day. Excuse me while I go take a nap just thinking of that! So, we know we cannot debate each of them. But what if we took the time to reconsider just a few of the ones we automate? Yes, reconsider. What if instead of saying yes to the same things, we say no? What if instead of saying no to the same things, we say yes? I have zero doubt that it would result in meeting new people, seeing new places, and who knows where that could lead. To be honest, as someone who loves a new adventure, the possibility of it all is extremely exciting! But, for those who are more averse to change, this may seem terrifying, so perhaps you take it slow. One extra yes (or no) every week. Seems reasonable right?

I’ll be travelling to family this week, and I will be taking this in mind on my travels. I’ll aim for one choice to be reconsidered a day. Let’s see where it takes me!

Let’s work on that this week:

Remember to always practice within your own limits and take care of physical and emotional well-being. Use yoga props as suits your practice.

Journaling: This week note 2-3 choices a day. Take one of those and journal on what may have happened if it was reconsidered.

Asana Practice: Go to a class that you have never taken before. Experience a new environment, new people. If you cannot go to a class, take your personal practice to a new environment, perhaps a favorite park or indoor public space!
