Yoga Inspiration: Full Circle
I’ve recently been considering the concept of when life comes “full circle”. As my parents age, my nieces grow into beautiful women, and my boys – pups! – age in front of my eyes each day. Then I consider the time I have lived in Calgary, over 10 years now; the growth and changes in my career, relationships, and the growth of this incredible city around me.
Throughout the years of my yoga practice and career there have been several full circle moments! My career before yoga was in philanthropy and it began planning events for a non-profit. Today, those event planning skills come back all the time for the logistics of the AYC’s Yoga Teacher Training! I often think about the time I landed on the floor for my first yoga teacher training to today, enthusiastically training others. Earning my yoga wheel training certification – literally moving with the support of a circle!
This week in our practice we are coming back to the Mandala Movement. Whether through Vinyasa Flow or Hatha we’ll make our way around the mat, exploring the perspectives of each side, finding balance, and smooth breath.
Journaling Ideas:
This week let’s explore full circle moments in our life. Can you write about a situation that has now come full circle for you? What was the timeline? What steps did you actively choose to arrive there and what happened unexpectedly that supported you?
After a 10-15min warm-up below are suggested poses for your week to help facilitate opening in body, mind, and spirit.
Yoga Poses to Add to Your Practice This Week:
Starting at the long-edge of the mat: Star Pose > Warrior II (back of the mat) > Standing Wind Relieving > Warrior III > Standing Forward Fold > Sun Salutation B > Star Pose > Warrior II (front of the mat) > Standing Wind Relieving > Warrior III > Standing Forward Fold > Sun Salutation B
Close out your practice using your warm-up as your cool-down and offer yourself a 10mins Savasana for rest.
Remember to always practice within your own limits and take care of physical and emotional well-being.
