The Alberta Yoga College is excited to celebrate International Yoga Day with the Indian Society of Calgary on Monday evening, June 21. We’re providing the society’s 14,000 members with a two-hour online celebration, featuring sessions of Meditation, Pranayama (breathwork) and Asana.
They’ll hear about the unique role of the college in the world of yoga teacher training. As well, society members will learn about The New Yoga, the respectful interweaving of yoga’s 2,000-year Indian Tradition with evidence-based asana teaching. This is expounded in The New Yoga: From Cult and Dogma to Science and Sanity, recently published by AYC director Rob Walker.
The celebration, led by Walker and faculty, evokes a grateful memory of his three month-long trips to Pune, India to study with legendary yoga master BKS Iyengar, the “Michelangelo of Yoga.”
